You don’t have to live in New Orleans to do Mardi Gras upright. At home, in your neighborhood, or even in faraway places, you can still celebrate Mardi Gras with your loved ones and friends. All you need to lend a festive atmosphere to the event is some traditional gold, green, and purple colors throughout your party area. We are going to look at a number of Mardi Gras projects for seniors so that you, your friends, and your loved ones can all celebrate Mardi Gras together in a truly festive atmosphere.
Wine Bottles
Here you will recycle your old wine bottles by first covering them in shiny gold spray paint.
Once the paint has dried, pick out appropriate colored sequins and get ready to glue.
Paint sections of the bottles with a light coating of glue and then roll them in the color sequins you prefer. You can use just one color of sequins, two, or all three (gold, green, and purple).
Wine Glasses
Cheap Dollar Store wine glasses can be used here and dressed up to fit perfectly into a Mardi Gras celebration. Grab a few small bottles of appropriately colored enamel paint, some brushes, and other types of dabbing devices. Paint stripes, polka dots, or what have you.
Make the glasses as fancy or as low-key as you desire. Make them all the same or as unique as each person drinking from the glass.
Glitter Votives (Flameless)
You’ll need either shot glasses or some other small glass votive holders/glasses in which to build your glitter votives.
Purchase a box of flameless votive candles (these run on a small battery). You can either leave these in the color in which they come, or you can cover them with glitter.
Inside the glass containers, you will sprinkle appropriately colored confetti and/or glitter, then set the flameless candle on top.
Light Fixtures and Chandeliers
Hopefully, you’ve already purchased boxes upon boxes of beads. After all, what is a Mardi Gras party without beads?
You can turn an everyday ceiling fixture into a beautiful Mardi Gras chandelier by draping (in a swag pattern) appropriately colored beads around the edges. Affix them in a temporary manner so you can remove them when the party is over. Not only is this festive-looking on its own, but on your ceiling, you may notice a pretty starburst pattern – if you do it right.
Mardi Gras Masks
In addition to beads, you can’t have Mardi Gras without masks! You’ll need some construction paper from which to cut the masks. You can either find patterns/designs online that can be printed onto paper to use as masks, or you can decorate the plain masks yourself.
Simply cut the shaped mask you desire and don’t forget holes for the eyes. Punch holes in the right and left sides of each mask and run a string through each hole. You can tie the string at the back, or you can purchase elasticized string for a snug, carefree fit.
If you choose to decorate the masks yourself, the possibilities are virtually as unlimited as your imagination.
Making Memories Last a Lifetime with a Scrapbook
Don’t forget lots of Mardi Gras props to pose with for pictures.
- Beads
- Crowns
- Masks
- Bowties
- Jester hat
- Top hats and more
For years to come, you will be able to remember your awesome Mardi Gras party with the photo/scrapbook you can make from those wild and crazy pictures.
